Tithing is a command that we are to follow. And while many people have varying opinions about this subject, the Word is clear. Both in the Old and New Testament, there are specific passages related to it.
Leviticus 27:30 – 1/10th of everything is holy to the Lord
Malachi 3:10 – withholding tithes is like robbing God
2 Corinthians 9:7 – give not reluctantly – God loves a cheerful giver
1 Corinthians 16:2 – set aside money
There are more Scriptures and stories about tithing and I encourage you to take a deep dive for your own edification and understanding.
One of the beautiful things I have learned about tithing is that it blesses the Lord when we do.
Giving back to Him that which He has given is an act of gratitude. One that I greatly enjoy. But I will tell you that I have fought this giant more than once. They don’t want us to understand this heavenly principle.
Some of the ways they try to deplete us financially so we can’t tithe are:
- Credit card debt
- Overspending
- Buying things you don’t really need
- Constantly giving to others while having nothing left over to take care of bills and groceries for you and your family
- Constant battles with things breaking, car repairs, etc.
- Health battles with extensive medical bills
The list could go on and on. The main goal is to keep us trapped using credit instead of cash so that we are in a cycle of repayment with interest. Or draining us so much in others ways that we can barely keep up.
In Luke 21:1-4, we read what a blessing it truly was for the widow to give all she had to God. It was more of a blessing than the rich giving out of their abundance. Because it was about the heart posture, not what was in their bank accounts.
I believe this widow understood that all she had belonged to God and in her gratitude for the little, she gave it back in love.
You can defeat the giants who financially deplete you by giving God your very best. If you have no money, then give your time in serving or some other way. Ask Holy Spirit to show you how to title then purpose it in your heart to do so. Tithing should be a joy for us, regardless of what we have left.
Giants know that when you tap into this truth and heavenly principle, while making it a joyous demonstration of your love for God – they can no longer deplete you or defeat you!
The choice is yours…choose wisely!
