We hide behind masks. We hide behind pain. We hide like the grout used to cover up holes and imperfections in the backsplashes as a kitchen is being redesigned. We hide behind complacency. We hide behind dead end jobs sometimes complaining but most times enduring the suffering never looking for better because we feel stuck in the mundane. We hide behind our pasts and victim mentalities. We hide behind familiarity.
We hide because of fear. Fear of failure. Many of us have failed at some point or another in our lives to varying degrees that set up a deep rooted fear within us that cripples us from moving forward in life. Seeking out what our God given potentials are due to fear. Our failure to launch becomes our failure to thrive. Our failure to thrive becomes our failure to seek an abundant life. Which leads us to hide.
Hide behind anything we can. Denial. Shame. Guilt. Regret. Condemnation. Hurt. Anguish. Pain. The list can go on and on.
Every time we hide we nail Jesus back to the cross to die a sinners death because we discount what He did for us the day He alone shed His blood to set us free. I know there are many times I am guilty of it too. I think it is time we all come out of hiding and walk in the freedom of knowing that we no longer have to wear those masks and no matter how hard it may be, we can truly have freedom.
I know it isn’t easy. The battle must be fought daily. That is why the Father so lovingly promises in Deuteronomy 31:8 “The LORD Himself goes before you; He will be with you. He will never leave you or forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.”
The biggest challenge we all have is ourselves. Start by looking in the mirror each day and practice removing the mask. Be who you were created to be and if you aren’t sure who that even is anymore, then ask Yahweh to show you. Dying to yourself is difficult but rewarding. Only then can you be full of the presence of the Almighty in such a way that His light will shine so bright through you that you will radiate with an overwhelming glow.
