ROOTED RENEGADE

Prophetic Words, Testimonies of Grace, & Stories of Hope

Day 1: Off The Grid

Today starts the first day of the “Off the Grid” Challenge! No social media for 21 days! Yes, you read that right! Absolutely none! I accepted the challenge while attending Church on Fire in Harrison, Ohio last weekend with a friend of mine. As soon as the picture showing “Off the Grid” popped up on the screen my heart screamed YES! My spirit jumped in my chest “DO IT”! And God spoke so passionately to me, “Come back to me daughter”!

Challenge accepted! When I disabled my Facebook and Messenger last night as well as uninstalled my Instagram last night, I felt empowered! New journey! Peace! No more Facebook and Instagram scrolling! No more looking to see who liked my posts and honestly getting a little disappointed when people didn’t. No more checking out what people were doing on social media. No more being consumed by posts, pictures, negativity (and positivity), etc. No more addiction. You read right again! No more social media addiction!

Social media has become an addiction in our society. Facebook has admitted in previous accounts that it was designed to be addicting. Let’s face it and be real…many of us sit for hours just scrolling to see what everyone is doing and get nothing else done. Then we look up from our screens in zombie mode and get mad at ourselves that our house is still a wreck, it is time to go to work or pick the kids up from school, an assignment is still due, laundry is still piled up, dinner still has to be cooked (and is not going to cook itself), and we have just wasted precious time on our social media account.

I for one refuse to sit idly by and watch life escape me like this anymore. But more importantly…I started slipping in my relationship with Christ. I would wake up and check my phone before I thanked Him for even opening my eyes. I began focusing more on what notifications I had waiting on me than what the Father had to say to me. Yahweh needs to be the first person I speak to in the morning. My phone should not be more important than Him. My social media should not take precedent over my relationship with Him.

So, Day 1…I am excited about where this challenge will lead. I hope more and more people will join me. Get back to a more intimate relationship with Christ. Get back to a more intimate relationship with family. Get back to a more intimate relationship with friends. Kill the social media addiction!

If you want to join me in this challenge…
