Prophetic Words, Testimonies of Grace, & Stories of Hope

Hey you! Yea..the Woman in the Mirror!

Wouldn’t it be nice to wake up each day and say to yourself “I love you girl!”… Many of us don’t do that do we? We wake up sleepy eyed, yawning, sometimes grumpy from restless sleep, with a thousand thoughts running through our minds of the day or days before. People, places, things, etc. Swirling around the confines of our minds like roller coasters at Six Flags and as soon as our feet hit the floor we are steadily trying to sort them out, one by one by one. Usually to no avail. Those of us who make it a daily habit to seek God’s face first thing in the morning, admittedly have to have our coffee first before our Jesus. Yes, beautiful ladies, let’s be honest here, many of us don’t function without coffee, that is why there are t-shirts, coffee mugs, and bumper stickers alike that say “Coffee & Jesus”! Ha! I know you are smiling while holding onto that hot cup of joe right now!

Rightfully, there are some who speak to the Creator before their feet hit the floor and at least say good morning and thank him for breath, life, and another day to start anew. I must admit this is me most days. I am a mixture depending upon the amount of good sleep I get. Some days I get up and my mind is a mess, my hair looks like the rockstar Pink, and well I am just glad I live alone! Coffee I am having to wean myself off of and let’s just say I wish I had a 4-legged friend some days…singleness can be hard on a woman entering the next phase of life (ugh 40’s)!

If you were to ask all the women in your life their morning mantra, I bet it would different for each one and you might be a little surprised to find that many of them probably don’t work in too much Jesus. Most times they don’t talk to themselves in the mirror with morning pep talks, afternoon hellos, or evening good nights. Some may find that down right ridiculous and they may even laugh at you for asking. Don’t be offended! I have a friend with a toddler, a preteen and one close to preteen and most days she can’t get a shower longer than 5 minutes without kids screaming, fighting, food flying, etc. If she goes to the grocery store it is never alone. Self care is trying to maintain sanity on a regular basis. And here I am with a teenager and one who just got married and divorced within less than 90 days.

You see our lives as women are chaotic, turbulent, full of laughter, joy, strife, good times, bad times, busyness, boredom, empty nests, full nests, and everything in between. Often times we get tunnel vision of our own lives thinking we are all alone, but I assure you we most definitely are not.

In Psalm 119:49-50, David writes, “Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.” Now David was facing many different trials than some that you and I may be facing but those two verses can give a lot of us hope and encouragement. This is how. When we stand in front of the mirror, at any moment during our days, we need to remind the girl looking back at us just a few simple things.

  • God keeps His promises. There is no where in scripture where God did not keep His word. What has He spoken to you? What have you been praying for? Psalm 119:58 “I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise.” Don’t give up hope in the midst of your circumstances. Remind yourself every day that the Lord God does not waiver. He is a faithful God.
  • You are loved beyond measure. Often times we feel less than when we are running around taking care of everyone else but ourselves. Girl….fix your face and love it too! By that I mean stop the next time you are in the bathroom running from the kids or the husband because you need that 5 minutes of breathing room between laundry, dinner, toddlers, homework, the job, the dog, the hamsters, whatever! And I don’t mean it negatively either…I mean stop. Look at yourself and love on yourself for a minute. God loved you so much that HE broke the mold when he made you. Genesis 2:18 “Then the Lord God sais, “It is not good that man should be alone. I will make him a helper suitable for him.” God knew that a woman was needed and how delicate she needed to be, how she needed to be made from the rib of a man, how intricate her emotions would be, how to form her, and so much more that even we cannot fathom. He knew just how to make YOU. You are His BELOVED. Even when you don’t feel like it…Let Jesus show you just how much He loves you! Put both hands on your face and tell yourself “I love you girl”! On your hardest days…on your best days…on every day in between…YOU ARE LOVED.
  • God’s ways are infinite and everlasting. Psalm 103:17 “But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him; and his righteousness to children’s children…” He never changes. He loves infinitely. Just as with us. So dear sister, remind yourself daily just how much you are valued. Look in the mirror with adoration. Be confident even when you don’t feel it. Be valiant even when you feel you might be failing. I promise you aren’t.

There are many times we as women feel alone, scared, depleted, and less than. We are so much more than what we feel. We are so much more than our day to day lives. We are bold, warriors, of the MOST HIGH KING. We are valiant even in our tattered and stained pajamas with no make-up rolling out bed every morning, tired with no coffee. Jesus loves us just as we are. After all, He alone died to save us…Romans 5:8 “But God shows his love for us, that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” How awesome is it that God loves that much? I think it is pretty amazing! It’s so amazing that it does not matter how I feel each day because He already knows that I am going to have an off day or three! He already knows when my friend is going to have a little too much toddlering for one day. Or another’s preteen is going to push the envelope with the cell phone one week. Or yet another friend’s teenager is going to keep her up worrying all night by coming in late past the curfew they agreed on the week before. He knows and He still loves us just the same.

So…YOU…woman in the mirror! YES YOU! I love you! Love yourself just as hard…even on your off days! Smile and wink at yourself…because YOU GOT THIS GIRL!
