Be Careful What You Are Listening To!

Our ears are always open and receiving information much like our eyes and our mind, even our senses when it comes to smell. Constant information pouring in without many of us giving forethought as to where that information is going or what it is doing to us. We just hear and listen and then the information gets stored within our mind, body and soul and often it sits and stirs, festers, and creates things inside of us that goes unnoticed for a long time.

There are many places in the Word of God that tells us to be careful what we pay attention too, be careful what we are listening too, be careful how we live, etc. God thought it was so important for us to guard what goes into us and what comes out of us that He reminds us over and over again. The biggest issue is that most are asleep to the things that are happening around them.

First thing I want to mention is what we hear every day. From the people we listen to at work, school, home, on TV, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, etc. The amount of information we absorb from outside sources just in our ears can be extremely detrimental to our wellbeing. At work we are often exposed to gossip in the name of “so how is so and so doing?”. While most of us want to answer the question with honesty and integrity, there are many who will use this opportunity to answer in the name of gossip and “tea” as I have so often heard it. Interesting how “tea” is for drinking yet it has been perverted (yes I said perverted) into a gossiping means of communication, even in the workplace. So our ears are then perverted to listening unless we get up and walk away. Some are not in a position where they are able to just get up and walk away from a meeting, because this inadvertently puts their jobs on the line because it is deemed rude and disrespectful to get up and walk out. So they have to sit and listen to the “tea” being spilled about another co-worker in the name of “so how is so and so doing?”. What should be inappropriate has become rather appropriate in work settings. It gives upper management the ability to “check-in” on their employees through their co-workers, instead of having performance reviews. It has become a rather unbecoming and commonplace practice and also opens the door to the enemy being able to operate freely and openly in the atmosphere with permission.

Social media is another form of gossip with the addition of slander, hatred, perversion, lying, manipulation, and various other forms of demonic activity that often we don’t either pay attention too and/or don’t realize that we are reading or listening too. Our ears (and eyes) are subject to everything that we scroll past, video shorts, reels, etc. that are coming at us every time we jump on social media and every platform we choose to participate on. Whether you are on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, SnapChat, Discord, or any other platform, you are subject to your friends feed, ads, or whatever feed pops up unless you filter out what you see and/or hear. Often this is not possible. We cannot control what other people post. Therefore what we intake into our souls and spirits through our eyes and ears is less controlled when we are on social media platforms. We can remove people from our social media accounts, however we have already seen and/or heard what they have posted. So, we must go through the process of cleaning up our spiritual gates with the Word of God.

That leads me to the second thing I want to mention. What we intake into our spiritual gates, infiltrates our minds. What we hear gets into our heads. So cleaning up our spiritual gates also means cleaning up the mess in our heads by using the Word of God. Romans 12:2 (see below) talks about “renewing our minds daily”. Daily taking charge of what we think because we have thoughts that come into our heads often based on what we see and what we hear. If you never heard or saw anything, you would still have thoughts (from God, yourself, and the enemy). However, you also have them based on the stimuli that is produced from what you intake. For instance, if you are listening to a song about hell and death then your thoughts will focus on that. For the younger generation, if you are listening to a song talking about drugs and gang bangin’ then what you do think will happen? Your thought life will focus on the same. Our mind conceptualizes what we hear. The same happens with what we see. It is important that we focus on what is pure, right, honorable, worthy, etc. (Philippians 4:8 -see below). It doesn’t make us feel good to think on thoughts that are horrible all the time. In fact it makes us feel miserable and can cause all kinds of health problems. Thoughts become actions. So it’s important to make good, healthy choices as to what we are listening too (and watching).

Ephesians 5:14 calls us to wake up and rise from the dead so that Christ’s light will shine on us! Many are sleeping and don’t realize what is really happening in the world around them. They have been conformed to the world’s patterns and have fallen asleep. So asleep in fact that music, social media, the news, political agendas, school curriculum, gender identity, etc. seem to be ripping families apart because of hatred. The enemy has knocked people out and sanity has literally left some people where they can no longer hear the truth and see the truth. People are asleep but they are being called to wake up! WAKE UP SLEEPERS!!! Sleepers stop exchanging all these lies and stop worshipping idols and serving created things but instead receive the truth about God and Him as Creator – the One who is forever and ever praised! (Romans 1:25). It is my prayer that every ear is open (and eye) to what the Lord is doing in the earth so that every sleeper comes fully awake! Beloved may you come to know the fullness of Christ Jesus so that you no longer walk in darkness!

You are dearly loved by the Father above – Jesus!

Below are the above referenced Scriptures

Romans 12:2 ESV Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Philippians 4:8 AMP Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right andconfirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continuallyon these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].

Ephesians 5:14 “This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Romans 1:25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
